A VERY HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY !

To all those Mum’s out there, either with or without their children to celebrate with tomorrow – Here’s wishing you a lovely day. Maybe it will start with a well earned lie in, followed by breakfast made for you; and whilst the children and the dog jump all over you wishing you a Happy Mother’s Day you can rest assured knowing that along with the publishers of Greetings Cards, it is YOUR day.

Working Mums have a lot to juggle so the recent child care benefits announced in the March budget will help as some Mum’s are working on the one hand and paying out as much as their salary to a child minder for the privilege of being in work.

It makes you wonder though, how little stay at home Mother’s are valued in this society. We should be encouraging husbands and wives to consider sharing the responsibility of staying at home in the early years to give the children a sense of security and grounding. With the few jobs there are in the marketplace, I would have thought it would have been in the Government’s interest to encourage this and give financial help for stay at home Mothers for the valuable job they are doing bringing up the next generation. However, I think they are treated with contempt and this latest budget proves that as only two parent working families have been given higher child care benefits, which is a slap in the face for families or single Mother’s who are struggling on either one salary or just on benefits. Society would benefit if Mother’s were appreciated more whether they are in work or not.

The Daily Mail last March 2013 published the findngs that the cost of a mother’s love if they were paid for all their help with childcare and housework would be at least £31,500 a year. A study caimed Mothers spend 71 hours every week on household work and that fathers spend oly 53.5 hours a week, worth £24,000 a year if paid. I think those Dads were exaggerating their share of the household chores don’t you?
